The passing of Om Malik was quite a shock and has stayed with me longer than I would’ve guessed. I didn’t know Om nor did I ever meet him nor speak to him. His impact on the tech community was larger but I only first heard of him a few years ago on a podcast episode with Ben Thompson. But since then I’ve devoured as much of what he wrote as I could. Om’s understanding of the industry and its history was unique. His ability to put that understanding into words that I so enjoyed reading was also unique. I will miss his writing. Dare I say I will miss him. I often worry about the unseen other side of the people I admire on the internet but it’s been joyful to read the remembrances from people who did know him. It seems as though the other unique thing about Om was he was not just a great writer but also a great person.
